GROWTH AND EXPANSION

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, PHARMACA, INTEGRATIVE PHARMACY $35.0 PRIVATELY HELD COMPANY

SPECIALIZING IN A SCIENTIFIC PHARMACY COUPLED WITH HOMEOPATHIC AND NATURAL PRODUCTS

SITUATION
  • The company had grown to 10 stores and the Board of Directors, in discussion with the CEO wanted to bring someone on board with multi-store operating experience with large, growth companies.
  • The company was operating as a small entrepreneurial business with little infrastructure and systems and the company was ready to begin the aggressive roll out of 10 to 15 stores a year without an operating plan.
PROBLEM
  • The company was about to receive a large tranche of capital to assist it in its next growth phase and needed leadership from someone who had a large company background who understood how to effectively execute a growth strategy for a young, developing company.
SOLUTION
  • Developed a strategic operating plan that outlined the direction of the business and tied together the CEO's vision for the company so financial results could be monitored regularly. Objectives, strategies, initiatives, timetables and responsibilities were also put into place.
  • Instituted a "Predictive Modeling Real Estate Plan" that accurately depicted where to place the new Pharmacies in key, high income geographic Western states for maximum productivity.
  • Developed a Merchandise Plan that was fully integrated into the Financial Plan so all KPI's could be effectively monitored.
  • In conjunction with the CEO, built the strategic plan for the company which enabled the business to be capitalized with additional funds from a large and influential Private Equity Group.
RESULTS
  • Comp store sales grew from $35.0 to $47.0 in seventeen months.
  • Inventory levels and the sku count were reduced by approximately 15% by better category management techniques.
  • The company has 35 stores and will add an additional 12 to 15 stores in 2009.
  • Projected volume by 2011 is estimated to be $100.0 with positive EBITDA and profitability.
  • In concert with the CEO designed and executed a new store concept which was cutting edge in the pharmacy industry. The store used new age "green" materials which enabled the store to use less energy and natural materials.
